This video looks at the controversy concerning the risk of suicide in young people who take antidepressant drugs. First, the video features a 2004 television news report announcing the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s decision to add “black box” warnings to antidepressant medications—warnings that alert users to a link between antidepressant drug use by some children and suicide. Next the video features a later news report about a study suggesting that the benefits of antidepressants for children outweigh their risks.
