In order to give the most useful feedback to a speaker, audience members should:
Be honest. Strive to be truthful, whether giving praise or criticism.
Be compassionate. Begin criticism with a positive remark, and focus criticism on the speaker’s message, not the speaker.
Be specific. Neither blanket praise nor blanket criticism is helpful. Instead, focus your criticism or praise on individual techniques, main points, or parts of the speech that worked or didn’t work.
Allow for different delivery styles. Everyone has his or her own style of speaking. Avoid negatively judging a message just because the speaker’s style differs from yours.
