A story about personal experience can be used as effective evidence if it has clear relevance to the claim. Or, a writer might provide an anecdote about the experience of others as a way to support a claim. This sort of evidence often can be used to make an argument less detached and more personal, building a connection with the reader (ethos) and possibly stirring up emotions (pathos).
