Once the United States was involved in the Second World War, the nation’s industries turned to producing the materials needed to win the war. Not only tanks, planes, and rifles but also clothes, boots, and food were needed to support the soldiers in the field. As a result, those on the home front faced supply shortages. To convince Americans to conserve goods and reduce waste, agencies such as the Office of War Information and the Office of Price Administration actively promoted conservation. Propaganda posters such as these were created to “sell” involvement in the war to the citizens and as such reflected the needs of the nation over that of the individual.
