1. In a short essay, answer the following question: Why did Leo Crane pursue a racial census of the Laguna Pueblo in 1920?
2. Although referenced by many of the letter writers in this unit, Laguna women are never heard from directly. Imagine yourself as a Laguna woman married to a white man on the Laguna Pueblo in the 1910s and 1920s, and then write an account of the events of the 1920 baseball game from your perspective. If necessary, pursue further research to provide an account of the game and Crane’s efforts to conduct a census. You may write your account in letter form as though the events have just occurred or as a memoir composed sometime long after the events have occurred.
