Once you have gathered and evaluated a reasonable collection of sources, it’s time to step back and consider them as a group.
Use these questions to check in with yourself. Make sure that you have a clear direction for your research — whether it’s the same direction you started with or a completely new one. Perhaps you are ready to answer your research question, refine your thesis, and begin a draft that pulls together your ideas and those of your sources. On the other hand, you may want to find other sources to support or challenge your assumptions, to counter strong evidence against your position, or to pursue a tantalizing new direction.
