Kim and Yoko are graduate students sharing a house close to campus. Kim is from New Jersey, and her family is of Irish American decent. Yoko is a Japanese woman who has come to the United States to go to graduate school. Kim and Yoko have decided to be roommates because they have classes together and enjoy many of the same things. A problem surfaced when they went to decorate their home.

Kim likes pictures and photographs that are the complete opposite of what Yoko would choose. Kim likes a lot of knickknacks, whereas Yoko prefers a lack of clutter. The women decide that each will decorate her own bedroom in whatever style she wants. However, they must determine how to decorate the living room.

Reread pages 518-528 in the textbook. Then, write at least one paragraph explaining to Kim and Yoko why they might have had problems and offering suggestions for decorating their house.
