You can see that home schooling is still the least-chosen option, but the number of home-schooled children is increasing, while the number of children attending private is slightly decreasing. Although any child can be home-schooled in the United States (not in some other nations), detailed data indicate that home schooling is more common in the early grades, especially when public schools are not nearby (as in Alaska and Texas), and less common in high school.
