Mind Over Matter Hazel McCallion was 89 years old when she was sworn in for her twelfth term as mayor of Mississauga, Ontario, in 2010. First elected to that position in 1978, she earned the nickname “Hurricane Hazel” for her strong, outspoken style. One of Canada’s longest-serving mayors, she was born and educated in Quebec and worked in the corporate world until 1967, when she decided to dedicate her career to politics.
