Encephalitis, pneumonia, and death (measles); meningitis, encephalitis, inflammation of show-overlayicles or ovaries, deafness (mumps). Rubella is very dangerous for pregnant women: It can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, and birth defects.

An itchy rash of blisters; fever; headache; fatigue. Symptoms usually last about a week.

Disease complications:

Chickenpox is usually mild in children, but the itching can be very uncomfortable, and children can miss about a week of school or child care if they contract it. In some cases, chickenpox can cause serious problems, such as skin infections, dehydration, pneumonia, and encephalitis. Chickenpox can be life-threatening, especially in babies, adolescents, adults, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems.
