Latin abbreviations are acceptable in notes and bibliographies.

etc. (Latin et cetera, “and so forth”)
i.e. (Latin id est, “that is”)
N.B. (Latin nota bene, “note well”)
In the text of a paper in most academic fields, use the appropriate English phrases.
