EXERCISE 17–3Jargon
Example:

On tap this afternoon is a tête-à-tête about the efficacy of revenue enhancers as an amelioration of the state’s monetary shortfalls.

On this afternoon’s schedule is a discussion about whether raising taxes can help the state’s financial problems.

The second sentence has replaced the jargon and pretentious language (tête-à-tête, efficacy of revenue enhancers, amelioration, monetary shortfalls) with plain English.
