The Journey of Odysseus
Odysseus is a hero whose story follows Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Cycle (sometimes called the Hero’s Journey or Hero’s Adventure) very closely. The Odyssey tells the story of the ten-year journey of Odysseus and his men home to the Greek island of Ithaca after the end of the Trojan War in Ancient Greece. Odysseus endures many hair-raising adventures, such as escaping from an angry Cyclops. A map of Odysseus’s journey in Homer’s Odyssey is reprinted here. The map was created by Prestwick House, a publisher of books and supporting materials for English and literature teachers and students.
