What kind of dogs did you have growing up?
Cesar Millan: I was blessed to live with eight dogs. We always have a pack of eight. It was the mother, the father, and then the puppies. You know, your typical traditional Mexican-style family. And so I got to see how the mom and the dad raised their pups.
My grandfather always kept the ones that were similar to the mom and the dad, meaning the working ones. We could not afford to feed dogs who were not going to be good workers for the farm, so those dogs were sent to the city. You know, because they were not farm quality.
And you know, like I say, I grew up in a low-income family, so everybody-- everybody, including me, and as soon as you walk, you have to work. And so it includes the dogs. The chickens worked, the donkey worked, the goats. Everybody had a purpose, and the purpose was to keep the family alive.
