MARK JARMAN: I developed my writing habits pretty early on, by the time I was in high school, with the encouragement of an English teacher I had, who urged me to write daily and to revise. And from that time on-- about the time I was 16, I guess-- I had-- I developed a series of habits. I developed the tools I wanted to use.
I usually write late at night, often before bed when I'm sleepy and inhibitions are down. And I revise in the morning, and that's the first thing I do. Every morning, I get up, pull out a folder of drafts, and I look at them and wonder about what I can bring to an end today.
