ROBIN BLACK: That's a great question. I actually kind of became a writer twice, because when I was in college, I took writing classes, and I wanted to be a writer. And I thought, I'm going to do this after I graduate college. This is just going to be my career.
And then something happened, and 20 years went by-- almost 20 years-- without that happening. I ended up having three kids. I was home with my kids. I didn't write. And then I got back to it right before I was 40.
And I think that it wasn't-- when I started again as a much older person, it wasn't that I had a thought. It was that I had a need. It was that I didn't think, oh, I'd like to try writing. I just thought, I really want to tell people this stuff. And that was how it happened.
