Was the media coverage fair and balanced? Research has shown that after hearing media coverage of a controversial issue, the Arab–Israeli conflict, people on both sides of the issue tended to judge that the coverage was slanted against their own views. This occurs due to confirmation bias; people notice and remember arguments that confirm their prior expectation of media bias, and thus conclude that media coverage is unfair. The same may occur in televised debates, as viewers judge whether the media is treating their favored candidate fairly.
