Being an angry or hostile person is bad for your heart and overall health (Chida amp; Steptoe, 2009). Suppressed anger can cause the following problems:

  • Trouble falling or staying asleep.
  • Rumination–spending large chunks of time thinking about problems.
  • Loneliness.
  • Frequent headaches.
  • Teeth clenching or grinding.
  • Comments made by other people about your bad temper.
  • Unwillingness of other people to tell you things they think might upset you.
  • Opinions of other people that you are stubborn or opinionated.

  • Relax through deep breathing and relaxing imagery.

  • Better your communication by not saying the first thing that comes to your mind and by listening carefully. Remain calm and take your time before answering.
  • Use humor to face problems constructively and to help not take yourself so seriously.
