The United States has introduced $1 coins many times throughout its history, and in recent decades has included the Susan B. Anthony dollar, Sacagawea dollar, and the presidential dollar. Yet, the use of dollar coins as a medium of exchange never caught on, with the majority of dollar coins ending up in coin collections rather than in cash registers.
