Regardless of your role—interviewer or interviewee—you create a relationship every time you take part in an interview. Just as with any interpersonal interaction you are a part of, the success of the interview depends on how well you communicate with your partner.

Although information and employment selection interviews have different purposes, you need the same essential communication skills to successfully manage either type. These include being an active listener; building rapport and demonstrating cooperation; and, if required, using mediated communication technologies competently.
