Managing Relational Dialectics With a partner, share a time during a relationship when you experienced relational dialectics: autonomy vs. connection, openness vs. protection, or novelty vs. predictability. How did you first react to feeling this tension? Discuss with your partner the ways you managed this tension. If you didn’t manage the tension (or haven’t managed it yet), brainstorm with your partner various ways to ease this tension and maintain the relationship.

Your response has been provisional accepted and will be graded by your instructor.

Sustaining Relationships with Mediated Communication In small groups, make a list of ways that mediated communication (texts, social media, Skype, etc.) helps to sustain relationships. Share examples from your past and current relationships to help generate your list. Then, on your own, reach out to someone through mediated communication and communicate with them in a way that fosters your relationship.
