Alex: Bad news?

Woman 2: It's the contract for renewing the lease on the apartment, and I wanted to talk to you about--

Alex: Oh, yeah. It's that time, I guess. Do you want to sign somewhere?

Woman 2: Alex, I need to talk with you. It's important, and it's going to take a while. Do you have anywhere to be? Is this a good time to chat?

Alex: Yeah, now's good. What' up?

Woman 2: I just want to talk to you about what to do about the apartment.

Alex: OK. What about it?

Woman 2: Alex, I'm going to look for another place to live, I mean on my own. I just don't feel that there's a solid connection between us anymore, not like there was when we first moved in here together. I feel like we're going in different directions, and we each should just move on with our lives. Are you feeling the same things?

Alex: I don't know. This isn't what I expected.

Woman 2: I'm sorry. I totally understand that this is hurtful, and you might be angry and sad. But I just want us both to be happy, and it seems to me that neither of us is happy anymore. Maybe you've been feeling the same way, and haven't wanted to face it. Am I right?

Alex: I guess. Yeah. It's just hard, you know? I can't figure it out. I don't understand what happened.

Woman 2: It's hard for me too. But I'm glad we're talking it over. And I think my moving out will make things easier for both of us. Maybe we should start by figuring out if you want to find a new roommate or not.
