This woodcut, originally titled Reconstruction of the South, depicts a literal turning of swords into ploughshares as both the South and the Union are reconstructed following the Civil War. The center of the image features entrepreneur and philanthropist George Peabody, who gave $2 million to support education in the South through his Peabody Education Fund.
