In 1913, Henry Ford installed the first moving assembly line in his Highland Park factory (in Detroit, Michigan) and revolutionized the automobile industry by producing a car every ninety-three minutes. By 1918, the plant was turning out ten thousand cars a day. The efficiency of the plant made the Ford Model T the world’s first affordable automobile, making car ownership a reality for the middle class.
