A great deal of research has suggested that in many diseases the earlier the diagnosis, with subsequent proper intervention, the greater likelihood of positive outcomes in many cases. Schizophrenia is one such illness in which early diagnosis and intervention can mean the difference between a functional life, including family, friends, and a career, and a life full of dysfunction, with impairment and the possibility of homelessness and inpatient hospitalization.
