The onset of schizophrenia usually ranges between the late teens and the mid-30s. Earlier onset is usually indicative of more severe symptomatology and a poorer prognosis. In an effort to better understand the presentation of and prognosis for such illnesses as autism spectrum disorder and schizophrenia, researchers have been showing more interest in determining when mental illnesses begin.
