Coronary heart disease and stress
On January 17, 1994, Los Angeles was struck by an enormous earthquake. Twenty-four city residents with cardiovascular disease died of heart attacks on that day, five times the usual total. This underlines the important role played by stress and other psychological and socio-cultural variables in coronary heart disease.
