Less than a year later, she announced that she was receiving treatment for bipolar disorder, a public acknowledgment that received enormous praise from mental health advocacy groups. Entering a treatment program after the extended stress of helping her husband Michael Douglas battle apparent throat cancer, Jones said there was no need to suffer in silence and she hoped the publicity surrounding her treatment would help others.
