Create Paragraphs That Use Appropriate Organizing Patterns

Effective documents follow an organizing pattern, often the same one that the document as a whole follows, such as chronology, description, or costs/benefits (see Chapter 15). These common patterns help readers anticipate what you’ll say. Readers who recognize a pattern, such as process explanation, will find it easier to focus on your ideas and argument if they understand how you are organizing your paragraph. Note how the following paragraph uses the problem/solution organizing pattern.
