45. Personal interview Place the name of the person interviewed first, words to indicate how the interview was conducted (“Personal interview,” “Telephone interview,” or “E-mail interview”), and the date.

Personal survey Place the title of the survey first, followed by the location of the survey if it was conducted in a particular city or state, the date the survey was first distributed, and an indication of how the interview was conducted (“Telephone survey,” “E-mail survey,” “Web survey,” “Mail survey,” or “Face-to-face survey”).

47. Unpublished letter If the letter was written to you, give the writer’s name, the words “Letter to the author” (no quotation marks), and the date the letter was written. End with the form of the material: use “MS” (meaning “manuscript”) for a handwritten letter and “TS” (meaning “typescript”) for a typed letter.

If the letter was written to someone else, give that name rather than “the author.”

48. Lecture or public address Give the speaker’s name and the title of the lecture (if there is one). If the lecture was part of a meeting or convention, identify that event. Conclude with the event data, including venue, city, and date. End with the appropriate label (“Lecture,” “Panel discussion,” “Reading”).
