This option works well when the ideas in the clauses are roughly equal in importance. To fix a run-on, add a comma and a coordinating conjunction — and, but, for, nor, or, so, or yet — to a run-on. Add a conjunction after the comma in a comma splice:

The band has just three other members, but they play different instruments on different tracks.
