After you have listened in and reflected on a conversation, you’ll begin the process of developing your own contribution to the conversation. Depending on your purposes and the role you’ve adopted as a writer, you’ll find that different kinds of activities come into play as you shape your ideas. Each of the chapters in Part Two helps you work through these activities: observing and reflecting on a subject (Chapter 5), determining how to inform your readers (Chapter 6), analyzing a subject (Chapter 7), evaluating a subject (Chapter 8), defining and solving problems (Chapter 9), or convincing or persuading your readers (Chapter 10).
