Every writer has a purpose, or reason, for writing. In fact, most writers have multiple purposes. In Chapters 5 through 10, you’ll explore a range of goals that you might be asked to pursue: to reflect, to inform, to analyze, to evaluate, to solve problems, and to convince or persuade. You will also bring your personal goals to a writing project, such as learning something new, improving your writing skills, convincing others to adopt your point of view, earning respect from others, getting a good grade, or earning a promotion.
