Ensure That Your Main Idea is Clear

Readers should be able to identify the point of your essay, even if you haven’t provided a thesis statement. As you review your essay, ask whether your reflections support the tentative thesis statement you drafted before writing (see Convey Your Main Idea), and ask if everything you wrote helps your readers understand your subject in the way you intended. You might find that you need to revise your thesis statement to reflect your draft, or that you need to adapt your draft to better support your main idea.
