Infographics

An infographic is a visual representation of a set of facts or data. As informative documents, infographics typically present information in a seemingly unbiased way, and they sometimes include a list of sources for the facts and data presented. Timelines are among the most common infographics, but in recent years innovative designers have taken advantage of easy-to-use graphic tools to create a slew of infographics that present information in unusual and unexpected ways. Because of their versatility and ability to present complex data in a format that is easy for readers to parse, infographics are useful in magazines and newspapers, on Web sites and blogs, in journal articles, and in a variety of other contexts. An infographic’s design contributes in large part to its effectiveness, and a clear, cohesive design is key to its success.
