Ensure That Your Judgments Are Fair and Reasonable

The most important question you can ask about your evaluative essay is whether your judgments are well grounded and convincing. Individual judgments should reflect the criteria and evidence you’ve presented to your readers. And your overall conclusion should reflect your judgments as a whole. If your judgments do not line up with your criteria and evidence, your readers will question your conclusions. Similarly, if your judgments are based on poorly chosen criteria or inadequate evidence, your readers will also question your conclusions. On the other hand, if your readers see your criteria as appropriate and your judgments as reasonable and well supported, they’ll be far more likely to act on your evaluation.
