adolescent egocentrism
The tendency for adolescents to demonstrate self-centered thoughts, beliefs, and feelings and to think that their perspectives are more significant and valid than other points of view.
AIDS
Acronym for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. AIDS is an advanced stage of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infection. HIV attacks the immune system seriously interfering with the patient's ability to fight infections and disease.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
A federal agency under the Department of Health and Human Services comprised of health professionals, researchers, scientists, economists, and other professionals that works to monitor, study, and improve public health.
HIV
HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. This virus can lead to AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). Once infected with HIV, an individual has the virus for life.

Synopsis

This activity provides an introduction to, history on, and statistics for HIV and AIDS, which is a worldwide epidemic. While there has been a significant amount of research on HIV/AIDS and possible treatments, diagnoses of AIDS are still on the rise. Videos will explore more closely how this epidemic affects people in Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
