Only a third of those who die from overdosing on alcohol were dependent on alcohol. Although the alcohol-related deaths of binge-drinking college students tend to receive the most notice, most alcohol overdoses occur among middle-aged, non-Hispanic white men (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015a).
