Figure 9.26The global digital divide.Only 35 percent of the world’s 7.1 billion inhabitants uses the Internet. The majority of Internet users reside in the developing world. While non-users stood at 65 percent of the world’s population in 2011, that was down from the 2006 figure of 82 percent non-users. The number of Internet users in the developing world has now surpassed those in the developed world. We can only expect these trends to continue.
