Once you have a working thesis, consider whether you need to do research for your writing project. Your assignment may require research, or you may decide on your own to find out more about your topic or to locate examples and illustrations that will enhance your writing. You may even need to do research at more than one stage of the writing process as you define, narrow, and perhaps change your topic. Library research, online research, and field research can all help you find the information and visuals you need. (For more on conducting research and working with sources, see Chapters 16 and 17. For more on organizing your support into paragraphs, see Chapter 8.)
