Charles L. Dodgson was a mathematical lecturer at Oxford University. Dodgson, who used the pen name Lewis Carroll, wrote on mathematical topics and even manipulability. But he achieved greater fame for his satirical works. In the Alice books, he refers to the mathematical operations as Ambition, Distraction, Uglification, and Derision, and his characters play nonsensical, easily manipulated games.
