It may seem that delivering mail in a cheap and timely manner should not be that hard. However, finding the best way to deliver mail over a variety of environments, rural, suburban, and urban, is very complex. How should a large geographic area be divided into smaller sections? Should each mail carrier use a truck as a “depot” to resupply small amounts of mail for delivery or should there be deposit boxes on street corners? Mathematics can be used to find answers to such questions.
