To practice the strategies of rhetorical analysis, read “Hirsch’s Desire for a National Curriculum,” an excerpt from Eugene F. Provenzo’s book, and answer these questions: What motivates Provenzo as a writer? What does he want readers to think about? What is Provenzo’s main point? Given the language Provenzo uses, who do you think his main audience is?
A successful response to this question will consider the concepts reviewed in Chapter 2. Refer to Chapter 2, From Reading as a Writer to Writing as a Reader as you reflect on your response to this activity.
