FIGURE 6.2 Using Flash Cards Flash cards are a great way to retain information and are especially good tools for visual and kinesthetic learners. If you were to use the first section of this chapter to create flash cards, you would put the chapter heading on the FRONT of the first card and subheadings on the BACK (see the top card). Then you would create a separate vocabulary card for each subheading (see bottom card). The front of each vocabulary card would provide the term to define, and the back would include a three-part definition: (1) the heading the term falls under, (2) the actual definition, and (3) a cue or detail to help you remember the term. When you have finished making flash cards for the entire chapter, stack them in order by placing vocabulary cards under each corresponding heading card. This strategy is one way to learn the information in small chunks and create a strong mental file folder in your memory. Many test questions come from headings and subheadings.
