Now that you have read and discussed this chapter, consider how you can apply what you have learned to your academic life and your personal life. The following prompts will help you reflect on chapter material and its relevance to you both now and in the future.

  1. It is important to get familiar with all the resources in your campus library. Think about a book that you love that was turned into a movie (e.g., The Lord of the Rings or the Harry Potter series). Search your library catalog to find the print copy. See if the library has it as an audiobook or in a language other than English. Find the DVD and soundtrack in your library’s media collection. Take a moment to appreciate what is available at your campus library!
  2. The importance of using information literacy skills in college is a no-brainer, but think beyond your college experience. How will improving your information literacy skills help you once you are out of college?
  3. Before reading this chapter, had you considered the differences between writing an exam response and writing a blog post or responding to someone on Facebook? Think about the online communications you’ve had in the last week. Did you send anything that could be misinterpreted? What advice about online communications would you give to other students?
