Part 1. Develop Your Career Story: Creating Balance
Introduction
Activity Objective:
In this chapter, you learned about the importance of maintaining your personal wellness by engaging in healthy habits and forming positive relationships in college. These concepts are equally important once you graduate, as the work environment can be demanding in the time it requires, the stress it creates, and the host of professional responsibilities it brings into our lives. It is important to start thinking now about how you will balance the requirements of your career with the desire to live a healthy life. Complete this activity to learn more about the work environments and the demands of careers that interest you.

- Choose two occupations that interest you, and then visit the online site of the Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) to learn more about the work environments of both of these careers. To do so, click here or search online for “Occupational Outlook Handbook”; then type the name of each career into the “Search Handbook” box.
- Once you have reached the home page for each of your chosen professions, select the “Work Environment” tab to learn more about the commitment and environment involved in pursuing these professions.
- Fill in the prompts below for one of the professions you researched. An example is provided.
EXAMPLE: Professionals in the field of welding tend to work full-time. It is common for employees to work more than forty hours per week in manufacturing, either indoors or outdoors, and during nights and weekends.
