The rock composing this rounded and weathered boulder is older than most rocks on Earth. It is part of an ancient mountain range in eastern Argentina called the Tandilia System. About 2.5 billion years ago, that mountain range was as high as the Himalayas, but weathering and erosion have reduced the once-mighty range to the low hills that are present today.
