Figure 16.39

Sediment-filled reservoir. Rindge Dam, built on Malibu Creek in Southern California over 50 years ago, is 30 m (100 ft) tall. There used to be a reservoir behind the dam, but the dam trapped sediment carried by the creek, which eventually filled the reservoir. Now vegetation grows on the former surface of the reservoir (shown with white line), and Malibu Creek runs over the top of the sediments and down a spillway.
