Stonehenge. Stonehenge, on Salisbury Plain, England, was built between 3000 and 2000 BCE. The exact purpose of Stonehenge is uncertain, but its stones are aligned to mark the changing position of the Sun across the year, so it most likely was used for observation of the astronomical seasons.
