Earth’s relief. Mount Everest and the Dead Sea are the two most extreme vertical points on Earth’s land surface. (A) Climbers attempt to reach the summit of Mount Everest. The mountain, on the border between Nepal and Tibet, is the highest point on the planet at 8,848 m (29,029 ft). (B) The Dead Sea’s shoreline in Israel is 427 m (1,401 ft) below sea level. It is Earth’s lowest land elevation.
